Basic Crochet Washcloth

One of my biggest sellers on my website is my washcloths. Made of 100% cotton yarn, they are safe to use for adults and children, even for people with sensitive skin. I have also used them for cleaning the house, the inside of my car, carpets, tables, bathroom, you name it. They are safe to run through the washing machine and the dryer. I just love them! I use them on my kids, and they take these just as well as they take the regular washcloths we got as gifts when they were born during bath time. Here is a pattern for a basic washcloth. The ones I sell on my website are a slightly different pattern, which provides some more texture for a better clean (in my opinion). If you're interested, you can purchase one from my website here :)

(A side note to know: I tend to crochet on the loose side. Because of this, I will tell you to use a hook size larger than what I actually used, because I know most people crochet tighter than I typically do).
The finished product will come out to be approximately 7.5"x7.5" without the border and 8"x8" with the border.

Here is what you need to make them:

1 skein 100% cotton yarn (I use a second color for contrast and to show the detail of the border, but you can do it all one color if you want. 1 skein will be enough)
1 size H crochet hook
large needle for weaving in ends

Key (this pattern uses American crochet terms):
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
st = stitch

Ch 26.
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook and each ch across (25 sc).

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. sc in first st and each st across (25 sc).

Repeat row 2 until your piece is square (it typically takes me approximately 25 rows to make a square).

If you are keeping the same color, continue on with the border instructions. If you are changing colors, here is where you would introduce your new color for the border.

BORDER:
Ch 1, turn (or change color, ch 1 and turn).

3sc in the first st (pictured), sc in each of the next 23 sc, 3sc in last sc of the row.
Continue on around the border; sc 23 sc along the next edge, 3sc in the corner st, sc in next 23 st, 3sc in the corner sc, 23 sc along edge, join with first sc in the corner. Finish off, weave in ends.

 That's all there is to it. It's a very basic crochet square, but the key is to use 100% cotton yarn.
I hope you enjoyed my little tutorial. Please let me know if any of the instructions are confusing in any way. And as always...
